Michael Lang's The Road to Woodstock to Become a Broadway Musical, Tickets Go On Sale Soon | |
The Road To Woodstock Musical Coming Soon! |
Co-creator of Woodstock Michael Lang recently announced that he plans to bring Woodstock 1969 Music and Art fair to Broadway. The show will use elements from his recent memoirs titled the road to Woodstock, written with Holly George-Warren. Lang exclaims that he has had a vision of a Broadway version of the festival for quite some time, but writing the memoir really put the idea into focus. With the recent 40th anniversary of the festival and recalling the accounts of the life changing experience, music lovers have once again fallen in love with peace and music. The era was so interesting and the music so prolific that the musical all but writes itself. Lang is producing the musical with Samuel G. Nappi, the chief executive of Alliance Energy said he was in talks with potential members of the show's creative team. Those interested should check in with Barry's tickets, which will sell tickets to the Woodstock musical as soon as they are released. |
With the project still in its infancy, no lineup has been officially announced, but classic Woodstock artists such as Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Sly and the Family Stone would be featured in the musical. Lang also hopes to get some of the surviving Woodstock artists onboard for the project. Lang believes that the musical would be a great, artistic piece and in no way cheapen the historical value of the festival. It would be an interesting swing on Woodstock 1969 seeing it on Broadway, and Lang hopes that the show will leave the audience with something of worth. The creative team, developers, and the production teams are near being finalized and the show may or may not include a character based on Lang, the public face of Woodstock 1969 for over four decades. It seems as though the idea of Woodstock will be in the limelight for much longer than the 40th anniversary would dictate. Perhaps the musical is just what Woodstock fans have been looking for in lieu of an official music festival. Woodstock Story will keep you updated on the latest news and happenings surrounding the musical. |
